DURHAM, N.C. – Four runs in the final two innings lifted Indiana (3-6) over Syracuse (3-4), 4-3, Sunday morning in the finale of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Durham. The Orange went 1-3 in the four games they played this weekend, splitting two contests with the Hoosiers.
Â
Rebecca Clyde wrapped up a strong offensive weekend with a hit and a pair of runs batted-in. Jamie Gregg and Gabby Teran each recorded two hits and Teran drove in the other 'Cuse tally.
Â
Alexa Romero tossed her second complete game against Indiana this weekend, totaling seven innings and allowing four earned runs on 10 hits in her first loss of 2020. The Orange ace finished with seven strikeouts for the second consecutive start. Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse jumped on Indiana in the bottom of the first, going on top, 2-0, thanks to consecutive hits from Teran, Neli Casares-Maher and Clyde. It was Clyde's single to center that scored the Orange runs.
Â
'Cuse extended the advantage with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second. Gregg hit an infield single and stole second base, setting up Teran, who brought her in with a base knock to right field.
Â
Romero kept the Hoosiers off the board until the top of the sixth inning. A two-run home run from freshman Desiree Dufek spoiled the shutout and a Taylor Lambert sacrifice fly knotted the score at three. In the visiting half of the seventh inning, it was sophomore Hannah Davis' solo shot to right field that gave Indiana a 4-3 advantage and the victory.
