SYRACUSE, N.Y. – When the Syracuse women's basketball team takes the court for Senior Day on Sunday against Boston College, it is not only the last time the seniors play inside the Carrier Dome, but the last Dome event of the school year. Sunday will be the final game under the current Dome roof, which closes on Sunday to continue the renovations for the new stadium experience.
To celebrate, 1,500 fans will receive a free Carrier Dome replica tin at Gates A and D while supplies last.
Syracuse rides a four-game home win streak into Sunday's matchup with the Eagles, most recently defeating Clemson, 59-46, on Feb. 20. There is a special online $5 ticket deal for Sunday's game which is slated to tip-off at 4 p.m. Prior to tip, the Orange will recognize four-year senior Gabrielle Cooper, graduate students Brooke Alexander, Elemy Colomé, Whisper Fisher and juniors Kiara Lewis and Digna Strautmane who will earn their undergraduate degrees this May.
The Carrier Dome officially opened in 1980, and in the 2006-07 season, the women's basketball team began playing majority of its home games there and made the official jump to hosting all home games in the Dome beginning in 2010-11.
The Orange are 177-61 all-time at the Dome with head coach Quentin Hillsman guiding Syracuse to 164 of those wins. 'Cuse has defeated 14 nationally-ranked opponents under the current roof, including wins over No. 8 Florida State and No. 5 Louisville this season.
The building is home to many great moments in Syracuse women's basketball history such as:
- Alexis Peterson's 45-point game against NC State on Jan. 12, 2017
- Fantasia Goodwin's Dome record 25 rebounds against St. Peter's on Dec. 22, 2007
- A record crowd of 11,021 on Feb. 19, 2017 when the Orange face Notre Dame
- Celebrated the 2016 squad's win over Albany on March 20, 2016 to advance to the program's first NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen
- Coach Hillman's recent 300th victory as the winningest coach in program history
When players, coaches, staff and fans come to the Dome next season and look up, the aesthetic will be different but the history of the Orange's growth and success will remain.
