Â
Hot Start
The Orange won six of their first eight matches this year before last week's consecutive losses to Columbia and No. 10 Duke. Syracuse was off to its best start since 2016 and was ranked 25th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) prior to the defeats.
Â
Miranda Ramirez leads the way for the Orange. The 2019 All-ACC Third Team selection picked up right where she left off last season with seven consecutive singles victories, and five two-set sweeps, to start the spring. Her 7-1 singles record is tied for the best on the team with freshman Kim Hansen. Freshman Zeynep Erman is having a strong start too, the Istanbul native carrying a 6-1 singles record into the weekend.
Â
Ranked Orange
For the first time this spring, and the eighth time in the Younes Limam era, the Orange earned an ITA top-25 ranking last week after a 4-3 victory over Boston College. Following last week two losses, Syracuse is now 44th in the country. Guzal Yusupova is ranked 77th nationally in singles play. 'Cuse was one of eight ACC programs ranked in the top-25 following the first rankings release.
Â
Scouting the Fighting Irish
Notre Dame finished head coach Allison Silverio's first season with a 13-12, 5-9 ACC record. Cameron Corse led the team with a 23-6 record and she returns this year looking to continue her success. Freshman Page Freeman paces the team with a 10-2 dual-match record.
Â
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville started the year 6-0 before going 2-2 in their last four. The Cards host No. 18 Miami Friday before coming to Upstate New York. Heading into the weekend, Louisville has secured the doubles point in three-straight matches and are looking to extend that streak. The duo of seniors Raven Neely and Diana Wong have been solid in the two matches since joining forces in doubles scoring two wins. Sophomore Rhea Verma is off to a top start in singles, posting a 7-2 record so far this season.
