SYRACUSE, NY- Syracuse ice hockey (12-19-2, 10-6-3 CHA) lost, 2-0, to Robert Morris (19-10-4, 13-4-2 CHA) Friday night in game one of Senior Weekend. The Orange outshot the Colonials 38-19 but could not capitalize on their opportunities. Kyleigh Hanzlik and Jaycee Gebhard lit the lamp for RMU. The puck drops at 3 p.m. tomorrow, and Syracuse will honor its eight seniors in a pregame ceremony. Parking and admission to all Syracuse ice hockey games are free.

"I think we did a lot of things right today, the only thing that went wrong was that we didn't score," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "I thought we generated a lot of chances and did a lot of good things, but kudos to their goaltender [Raygan Kirk], she's very good. I liked our kid's energy and how they kept their feet moving. This is two games in a row that we've been shutout but we've had a lot of good chances."
Â
How it Happened
Neither side could find the back of the net in the first period. Syracuse dominated possession, keeping the action in the offensive zone and outshooting the competition 14-4 in the first 20 minutes.
Â
'Cuse came out firing again early in the second period, peppering Robert Morris' Kirk. The Orange recorded seven shots in the first three minutes of second period action. A brief moment of panic came when RMU's Joelle Fiala went streaking up the side boards on a breakaway, but Allison Small stayed calm and stopped the blocker-side shot. Moments later Hanzlik found space at the top of the left circle and went top shelf to put RMU up 1-0. Syracuse wasn't without opportunities of it's own. With about five minutes to play in the period, Anonda Hoppner had a breakaway chance of her own, but she was denied at the top of the crease.
Â
Syracuse's offense slowed in the third but the defense continued to block shots and break up plays. With just over a minute to play, Syracuse pulled Small for the extra skater. Michaela Boyle used the opportunity to put her side up 2-0 and secure the win for the Colonials.
