SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A year of turning heads yielded yet another recognition for Mae Batherson Friday. The freshman earned a spot on the All-USCHO Rookie Team following a dominating first season with Syracuse. Batherson recorded six goals and 16 assists and picked up College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Year and CHA All-Rookie Team honors before the year was up. She is the first player in program history to land on a USCHO post-season team, and one of three CHA players named to a 2020 All-USCHO Women's Division I team.
"It's an absolute honor to be recognized," Batherson said. "It really adds a huge boost of confidence to be recognized as one of the top players in the nation heading into next year. I'm excited to continue to play against the top players and teams next season, and I have great confidence in myself and my teammates that great things are to come for the Syracuse program. I owe a great thanks to my coaches, teammates and staff that contributed to my on-ice success and I wouldn't have been able to have the season I had without them. I am very proud to represent Syracuse University, and I look forward to continue doing so in the future."
Batherson paced all CHA freshmen in scoring, and she tied for fifth in the CHA in defenseman scoring. A native of New Minas, Nova Scotia, she ranks 26th among NCAA freshmen in points per game (0.61), making her the only CHA player to land in the category's top-30. She was the fifth-most productive player on Syracuse's roster this season, picked up CHA Rookie of the Month honors in February, and was a three-time CHA Rookie of the Week honoree.
"Mae came in well prepared and ready to establish herself from day one," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "She had an exceptional freshman year and contributed in a big way in all aspects of our program. Mae exhibited a ton of poise and confidence for a rookie and we expect her to build on that next fall. She has an opportunity to be one of the best in our league and make her mark in the NCAA."
