
Six Orange Honored for Academic Success

Six Syracuse hockey standouts were honored for their success in the classroom by The American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA) this month, earning Krampade All-American Scholar honors.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for the fall semester and participated in 40% of their school's games. Seniors Amanda Bäckebo, Ady Cohen, Anonda Hoppner and Allie Olnowich headline the list, with rising senior Jessica DiGirolamo and rising sophomore Mae Batherson earned the accolades. The Orange's six selections was bested by only 14 Division I programs nationally.
Backebo, a senior forward for the Orange, concluded her 2019-20 campaign with the team's highest +/- rating at plus-nine. She skated in 28 games this year. She majored in communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Cohen posted a winning record in net this season, with a 2.76 goals against average this year. She made a season-best 40 saves against Mercyhurst in February. She majored in psychology with an integrated learning major in forensic science in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Hoppner, a senior forward, finished the season with 11 points and five goals this year, skating in all-but two games. She studied communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Olnowich, a senior defenseman, played in every game of her final two seasons at SU. She scored twice and notched four assists. She earned her degree from the David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics.
Digirolamo, who is in Hockey Canada's national team camp currently, was second on the Orange in points last season with 23 (8-15). She is majoring in health and physical education.
Batherson was the first Syracuse player to land on a USCHO postseason award team after earning all-rookie team honors this year. The CHA Rookie of the Year, she scored 22 points in her freshman season at SU.
