The first top-25 matchup of the season for #23 Syracuse is Thursday night when the Orange travel to #1 Louisville. Tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. on ESPN2 with Debbie Antonelli and Beth Mowins G '90 on the call.
The Orange ride a three-game win streak into Thursday night's primetime game. Syracuse is in the middle of a stretch where it plays four games in eight days having beaten Miami on Sunday, 99-64, and North Carolina on Tuesday, 88-76, and will travel to Clemson for a Noon game on ACC Network. 'Cuse is led by freshman Kamilla Cardoso (15.2 ppg) who leads the ACC in field goal percentage (.630), blocks per game (2.38), and offensive rebounds per game (3.88). Emily Engstler (9.2 ppg, 10.3 rpg) and Tiana Mangakahia (12.0 ppg, 7.1apg) are coming off back-to-back double doubles while Kiara Lewis, who is second on the team in scoring (13.4 ppg) had her third 20-point game of the season with 23 points against the Tar Heels on Tuesday.
Louisville (12-0, 5-0 ACC) will play its first-ever game as the nation's No. 1 team Thursday night. The Cardinals are led by Dana Evans (19.4 ppg) and have three other players scoring in double figures. UofL leads the ACC in shooting (42.9%) and are out-rebounding opponents by 10 rebounds per game. Coach Jeff Walz's squad is 8-0 in the confines of the KFC Yum! Center most recently beating Florida State 84-56 on Sunday.
Syracuse (7-1, 4-1 ACC) is 0-18 all-time against Associated Press (AP) Top-25 No.1-ranked opponents, most recently playing Oregon on Nov. 24, 2019, and is 0-8 in road games. The Cardinals lead the all-time series 13-7 and are 8-1 at home against Syracuse. Last season, the two split the regular season series each winning at home. Syracuse's home win over then-ranked #5 Louisville also marked the 300th win of Head Coach Quentin Hillsman's career. Louisville then defeated Syracuse, 71-46, in the 2020 ACC Tournament quarterfinals in what would be the Orange's last game before the NCAA canceled the rest of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The highly-anticipated backcourt matchup of Mangakahia and Lewis against Evans and Louisville freshman Hailey Van Lith tips off on ESPN 2 at 9 p.m.
