Volunteers Top Orange in ITA Kickoff Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Syracuse women's tennis completed competition at the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-0 setback to Tennessee in the consolation match on Sunday, Jan. 24 in Columbus, Ohio.

Tennessee earned the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Tenika McGiffin and Carly Briggs posted a 6-3 victory against Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Natalie Novotna at No. 1, while Daria Kuczer and Esther Adeshina defeated Polina Kozyreva and Sofya Treshcheva, 6-4, in the No. 2 match.

The Volunteers earned the victory with wins in singles competition at the No. 3, 5 and 6 spots. The Orange were leading in the other three singles matches when play was called.

"It was great to finally get back to competing this weekend," Orange head coach Younes Limam said. "We played two strong teams, which made it clear what we need to work on between now and our next match. Overall, we are proud of the team's positive attitude and how our returning players have welcomed their new teammates into the fold."
