
Orange Beat Morgan State

Syracuse improved to 2-1 on Wednesday night with a 79-60 win over Morgan State (0-4) in the Carrier Dome. Led by a career night by redshirt sophomore Teisha Hyman, Syracuse scored 40 points in the paint in the win and shot 40.9 percent from the field. Hyman had a career-high 23 points becoming the first Orange to log a 20-point performance this season. Christianna Carr's 17 points and 15 rebounds was the first double-double of the season at Syracuse.Â
Syracuse used a 7-1 run at the 8:25 mark in the first quarter to run away from Morgan State, a deficit the Bears would never recover from. Hyman's sharp-shooting first quarter gave the Orange a 24-12 lead after the opening frame shooting 4-for-5 from the floor for 12 points in 10 minutes.Â
The Orange cooled off in the second quarter scoring just 10 points but they held Morgan State to six points on three field goals (3-for-15). The Orange held a 34-18 lead at halftime with all five starters contributing.Â
'Cuse held Morgan State to just four field goals in the third quarter and capitalized on the Bears' turnovers scoring nine points off of turnovers. The Orange had their highest-scoring frame in the third scoring a game-high 25 points.
Syracuse closed out the game shooting 44.4 percent in the final frame and scored 20 points. 'Cuse finished the game shooting 83.3 percent from the free throw line making 20-of-24 attempts at the charity stripe.Â
Christianna Carr had a double-double with 17 points, 15 rebounds and a team-high four steals while tallying her 1,000th collegiate point. Hyman added nine rebounds and three steals and Alaysia Styles (12 points) and Najé Murray (10 points) also scored in double figures.Â
The Orange head to the Bad Boy Mowers Women's Battle 4 Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas this weekend for a trio of games.
