Orange Lose to Rams

Syracuse (2-2) fell to VCU (3-2), 67-55 in its first game at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament on Wednesday in Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Senior forward Jimmy Boeheim recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Buddy Boeheim led the Orange with 20 points.
Graduate forward Levi Stockard III led the Rams with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Marcus Tsohonis recorded 12 points shooting 4-6 (.667) from the field and 3-4 (.750) outside the arc.Â

"We missed a lot of open shots," Coach Jim Boeheim said. "They were one of the better defensive pressure teams we've seen. When you get open shots against that kind of pressure, you got to make them."
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
After seven lead changes and four tie scores throughout the game, VCU took the lead for good with 14:29 left in the second half, thanks to a 14-5 stretch led by Tsohonis with two 3-pointers. The Orange continued to battle for the remainder of the half, keeping themselves within single digit points of the Rams, until the final seconds of the game.

ORANGE AND RAMS GO HEAD-TO-HEAD
Jimmy Boeheim opened the scoring for the Orange for the fourth consecutive game, scoring the first five points to give Syracuse the early lead 5-0 lead. VCU answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Tsohonis and Keshawn Curry, to take the lead for the first time by a score of 12-10 with 11:37 left in the opening half.

Buddy Boeheim responded with six points of his own beyond the arc to recapture the lead for the Orange, 18-17. The half concluded with a Syracuse 9-0 run. Buddy Boeheim, Jimmy Boeheim, and Cole Swider converted two free throws a piece while Joe Girard III scored his first points of the game, a 3-point field goal, giving the Orange a 27-23 edge going into the half.

VCU opened the second half with a 9-2 run to take the early 32-29 lead. The Orange answered back with a five-point stretch to move back in front, 34-32. The Rams regained the lead with 14:29 to go.
