Syracuse (2-2) plays in the second round of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament to take on Arizona State (2-3) at 7:30 p.m.
SETTING THE STAGE
Syracuse is coming off a 67-55 loss to VCU last night in the first round of the tournament. The game featured seven lead changes and four tie scores until the Rams took the lead for good in the second half. The Boeheim brothers totaled 37 points between the two of them, Jimmy, earning his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Buddy Boeheim had a squad-best 20 points.
Arizona State also suffered a loss last night to Baylor, 75-63. It was a back-and-forth game until Baylor captured the lead with 8:16 remaining in the first half. The Sun Devils could not regain control for the remainder of the contest. Sophomore guard DJ Horne led Arizona State with 20 points.Â
THE SYRACUSE-ARIZONA STATE SERIES
The Orange own a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series with Arizona State. The last time the two teams faced off was in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, when the Orange defeated the Sun Devils 60-56.
JIMMY BOEHEIMÂ DOUBLES UP
Orange graduate forward Jimmy Boeheim recorded a double-double in back-to-back games against Colgate and VCU. He has accounted for the first points for the Orange in every contest for the first four consecutive outings this season. He leads Syracuse in rebounding (7.8 rpg.).
Senior guard Buddy Boeheim topsthe team in scoring average (20.0 ppg.). He is on the preseason watch lists for the NABC, Naismith, Wooden and Jerry West awards.
SUN DEVILS' SOLID ATTACK
Graduate forward Kimani Lawrence (13.6 ppg) and sophomore guard DJ Horne (11.6 ppg.) are top offensive threats for the Sun Devils. Horn helped lift Arizona State to a 72-63 victory against North Florida last week and led the offense in the game last night.
