Syracuse split its first doubleheader of the season on Saturday, defeating North Carolina 3-2 in nine innings, before the Tar Heels topped the Orange 4-0 in the second contest of the day.
The Orange are now 2-1 on the season after defeating Notre Dame on opening night Friday.
GAME ONE:
Kaia Oliver was stellar in her first start of the year in the circle, throwing striking out nine North Carolina batters over nine innings and surrendering just four hits.
'Cuse gave her some run support right away in the first inning when leadoff hitter Gabby Teran got on board and was eventually driven home on a sacrifice fly by Toni Martin.
Martin added another run in the sixth when she hit a solo home run to right field to give the Orange a 2-0 lead.
UNC wouldn't go quietly, scoring two in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras.
Carolina threatened again in the eighth when they loaded the bases but Oliver struck out Brittany Pickett to send the game to the ninth.
Jude Padilla started the Orange's ninth inning rally by singling to get on. She was lifted for Paris Woods to pinch run, who was eventually driven home by Carli Campbell's single through the right side.
Oliver ended the game by striking out the side in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
GAME TWO:
After two scoreless innings to start the game, Destiny Middleton broke the tie in the top of the third with a homer to right field.
Carolina made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and added a pair of runs in the sixth, including a homerun by Taylor Greene.
Syracuse was unable to get the bats going being held to just five hits by Pickett in game two.
The Orange are back in action for the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
