Orange Complete the Sweep at RMU
2/27/2021 6:22:00 PM | Ice Hockey
Syracuse closed out the regular season with a sweep of Robert Morris. The Orange beat the Colonials 4-1 on Sunday in Moon Township, Pa. Four different Syracuse players scored, including Sarah Thompson, Tatum White, Abby Moloughney and Jessica DiGirolamo. Senior goaltender Allison Small recorded another big game, earning a total of 84 saves over the weekend. The Orange (10-8-1 overall, 8-6-1 College Hockey America) earned the fourth seed in the 2021 CHA Tournament and will play Lindenwood in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 7:30 pm. The game will be streamed live via Stretch TV.
"It was great to wrap up the regular season with a sweep," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Great to see our seniors to see our seniors all contribute and play well this weekend. Allison (Small) stood tall again today and four different goal scorers gave us all the offense we needed. We look forward to next week and an opportunity to play for a league championship!"
Â
The Orange won in the same fashion as they did on Saturday. After falling behind, 1-0, in the first period, Syracuse strung together four consecutive goals and held the Colonials without another score for the 4-1 victory. The Orange came out with energy in the second period, scoring four goals in less than five minutes of play. Thompson scored the first 'Cuse goal of the game less than five minutes into the period on assists from Brynn Koocher and Madison Beishuizen.
Â
White scored one minute later burying the puck in the top of the net. Beishuizen and Koocher set up White's goal, as well. About 80 seconds later, Moloughney capitalized on an RMU defensive error to increase the Orange advantage to two, 3-1.
Â
DiGirolamo finished the scoring on a power play goal 11 minutes into the second period to put the Orange up 4-1. Her goal gives her nine this season, which ties Lindsay Eastwood (2016-2020) for second on the Syracuse single-season record list for goals by a defenseman.
Â
Syracuse goalie Allison Small recorded 35 saves, increasing her career total to 1,117, which ranks sixth in Syracuse history.
