THE STONY BROOK SERIES
- Syracuse and Stony Brook will face each other for the first time on Friday.
- The State of New York has 17 NCAA Division I lacrosse programs - the most of any state - Syracuse will now have played all but three of them after Friday's contest. The Orange have yet to face St. Bonaventure (which is in its third season of a program), Manhattan and Wagner. Syracuse also has not faced LIU since LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn merged into one athletic department in 2019-20, but had previously played Post.
- This is the Orange's second-straight week facing a first-time opponent. Prior to this season, the Orange had not added a new foe to its regular season slate since 2013, when the team played Canisius.Â
AGAINST THE AMERICA EAST
- Syracuse is 27-6 all-time against the seven current members of the America East Conference.
- The Orange will play three America East opponents in 2020, with the Orange set to face Albany later this year after having faced Vermont last week and Stony Brook on Friday.
- 'Cuse boasts a 8-0 mark against Binghamton, 16-2 record against UAlbany, a 1-0 record vs. Vermont and a 2-5 record vs. UMBC.Â
- Syracuse has not played Stony Brook, UMass Lowell or Hartford to date.
REHFUSS RISING
- Stephen Rehfuss moved into 10th in career assists at Syracuse with his six assists against Vermont, giving him 90 for his career.
- The list above him is a who's who of lacrosse greats. Tim Nelson (187), John Zulberti (158), Tim O'Hara (158), Mike Powell (157), Ryan Powell (150), Casey Powell (129), Kevin Rice (126), Rob Kavovit (121) and Jamie Archer (108) is the entirety of the players ahead of him.
- The majority of the list played in the 80s and 90s. Of players that started their careers this century, only Mikey Powell and Kevin Rice have more assists in an Orange uniform
- Rehfuss is eighth in the NCAA among active players in total assists (90) and 12th career assists per game (1.73).
- So far this season, he ranks second in the ACC and fifth nationally with 3.33 assists per game.
CAN'T GET PAST PORTER
- Drake Porter enters Friday's game leading the nation in saves per game (16.0).Â
- He's had a strong start to the season, especially in his two most recent outings. Against Virginia, he stopped 15 shots and allowed just 10 goals to the Cavaliers high-powered offense, tying their fewest goals in their last-20 games (the 2019 ACC final against Notre Dame was the last time they were held to 10).
- Porter then made the most saves (21) by a Syracuse goalie since Peter Coluccini made 22 against Cornell in 2007.
- Porter ranks seventh among active NCAA DI players in saves per game (10.89) in his career.Â
A WIN AGAINST STONY BROOK WOULD...
- Be the program's 920th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Make Syracuse 1-0 vs. Stony Brook all-time and give John Desko a winning record against 36 of the 37 programs he has coached against in his 23-year tenure.
- Make Syracuse 28-6 all-time against the America East Conference.
- Be the 525th win John Desko has been part of at Syracuse, including his time as a player, assistant and head coach. Desko has been part of more wins at Syracuse than all-but 18 NCAA Division I programs have in their history.
- Give Desko 261 victories as a head coach, moving him into a tie with Howdy Myers (Johns Hopkins/Hofstra/Hampden-Sydney) for 17th all-time.
DOME-INATION
- Syracuse is 250-41 (.859) in the Carrier Dome since it began playing the majority of its home games there in 1981.
- The Orange finished 5-2 in the Dome in 2019, 4-0 in 2020 and is 2-1 this season.
- 'Cuse has won 41 of its last-50 home games.
- The Orange have also earned a first-round 'Dome Game' in the NCAA Tournament in six of the last seven seasons which an NCAA Tournament was held.
STATE CHAMPS
- Syracuse has four games scheduled against in-state foes this season.
- Historically, Syracuse has dominated New York. Owning a combined 416-161-10 record against teams from New York.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
- Since joining the ACC, the Orange is 50-14 versus non-conference opponents, including a 46-10 mark in regular-season, non-league contests.Â
