Owen Hiltz and Brendan Curry notch 5 points apiece
The offense was clicking, the faceoff unit had a bounce-back performance and Drake Porter stopped 11 of the 16 shots he faced as 'Cuse cruised to its third-straight victory on Friday.
The No. 7 Orange (3-1) downed Stony Brook (2-3) by a score of 17-9. The offensive outburst was led by five-point days from freshman Owen Hiltz (4-1) and junior Brendan Curry (2-3). Chase Scanlan (2-2) and Stephen Rehfuss (3-1) also had big days as the Orange's starting attack combined for 13 points.
Additionally, Jakob Phaup rebounded from a tough day against Vermont to win 16-of-25 restarts at the X, helped by a career-high seven ground balls by Peter Dearth. Tucker Dordevic (3-0), Jamie Trimboli (1-1) and Owen Seebold (0-2) also added multi-point days.
Syracuse jumped off to a hot start behind early goals from Rehfuss, Dearth and Scanlan in succession in the game's first seven minutes. The Seawolves Dylan Pallonetti got Stony Brook on the board with 1:25 remaining in the first, before Rehfuss notched his second of the day to take a 4-1 lead after one period of play.
Hiltz opened the second with a highlight-reel low shot to take a 5-1 lead, but Stony Brook scored three unanswered to pull within one midway through the second.
It was all Orange after that, as Syracuse scored nine unanswered to run away from the Seawolves.
Stony Brook out-shot Syracuse 47-45 on the day and both teams were sloppy on clears, with 'Cuse converting 17-of-22 and Stony Brook converting 14-of-19.
