WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Syracuse women's tennis faced its third straight ranked opponent on Friday, March 19. No. 29 Wake Forest defeated the Orange, 6-1, at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Demon Deacons (8-6,4-3) took the doubles point with victories in matches one and three. In No. 1 doubles Carolyn Campana and Eliza Omirou defeated Polina Kozyreva and Sofya Treshcheva, 6-3, while the No. 3 doubles team of Anna Campana and Peyton Pesavento beat Guzal Yusupova and Miranda Ramirez 7-5. No. 2 doubles stopped play in a 6-6 tie.

On the singles side, Wake Forest posted three straight-set victories to claim the victory. Yusupova lost to Campana, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Cassie Wooten defeated Kozyreva, 6-3, 6-1 on Court 6. The Demon Deacons clinched the match and their eighth win of the season when Anna Brylin took down Natalie Novtona, 6-0, 6-3, in No. 2 singles.

The remaining matches were played out and Wake Forest took two of the three. In No. 5 singles Omirou edged out Treshcheva, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Ramirez posted the Orange's lone win, defeating Brooke Killingsworth, 6-0, 7-6, 1-0 (10-4) in the No. 4 spot. In the final match, Campana, who is ranked No. 21 in the nation, edged out Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1.
