The Syracuse softball team won both games in Saturday's double header against Pittsburgh. The Orange won game one, 7-4, and needed just six innings in a 8-0 win during the evening matchup. The Orange secure their first ACC series win of the season with the pair of wins and return to action Sunday at 2 p.m. in the four-game series finale.

A pair of RBI hits by Calista Almer and Neli Casares-Maher gave Syracuse a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game one. The Panthers responded with two runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning to tie things at 2-2. A solo home run by Pitt in the bottom of the second made it a 2-1 game but Syracuse evened things in the top half of the third inning when Lailoni Mayfield hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Casares-Maher who led off the inning with a double.

The Orange added two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth for a 6-4 lead and added an insurance run with a solo home run from Paris Woods.

Jolie Gustave earned the win in the circle throwing two innings where she allowed one hit and struck out three Panthers. Kaia Oliver earned the start and pitched the first three innings and Alexa Romera closed the game finishing off the final six outs where she struck out two.

Syracuse started game two swinging with three runs on three hits and a Panthers error in the top of the first inning. Lindsey Hendrix worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half and the Orange settled in. Syracuse added a run in the top of the second when Angel Jasso's RBI double scored Almer. Rebecca Clyde drove in a pair of runs in the top of the fifth for a 6-0 Syracuse lead and Makena Fidler had a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0. Casares-Maher hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season to make it 8-0 in the top of the sixth. Pittsburgh lef a runnner on base in the bottom of the sixth but Hendrix got the final out on a fly ball to the outfield to secure her first win of the season.

Hendrix threw her first complete game (6 inn.) shutout of her career. The Orlando, Fla., native struck out five Panthers without and walks. Syracuse tied its season-high 10 hits and scored a season-high eight runs in the win.

The two play the final game of a four-game ACC series Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m. on ACCNX.
