
Ten Earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A league-best eight members of the Orange have been voted to the All-ACC Women's Lacrosse Team announced on Tuesday, April 27. In addition, two Syracuse newcomers were named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

Juniors Megan Carney, Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell were selected to the All-ACC First Team in a vote by the league's head coaches. Senior Sam Swart, junior Sierra Cockerille and graduate students Kerry Defliese, Ella Simkins and Asa Goldstock are second-team honorees. In addition, Emma Ward and Jenny Markey were voted to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

Carney is Syracuse's leading goal scorer this season with 49 to go along with 20 assists in 13 games. The Tewaaraton Award nominee scored four or more goals in seven games this season, including a career-high seven goals against Louisville. Carney, who recorded her 100th career goal on April 22, will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury against Boston College.

Cooper has picked up a team-best 35 ground balls and is tied for the top spot in caused turnovers with 26. She is a member of a defensive unit that ranks 10th in the nation in scoring defense (9.36). Cooper, who has been named a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award, is tied for 26th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (1.86) and ranks second in the ACC in ground balls per game (2.50).

Tyrrell is also a Tewaaraton Award nominee after recording 48 goals and 29 assists through 14 games this season. She leads the team in points (77) and assists and ranks second in goals. Tyrrell has posted five or more points in a game 10 times this season, including a career-high 10 against Louisville. She ranks fifth in the nation in points, 12th in goals and 17th in assists.

Swart and Cockerille have anchored the Orange midfield this season. Swart is third on the team in goals (26) and fifth in points. She also has recorded 12 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Cockerille has posted career highs in every statistical category, including points (36), goals (17), assists (19), ground balls (13), caused turnovers (8) and draw controls (15).

Defliese and Simkins have helped the Orange defense hold their opponents to seven or less goals in seven contests this season. Defliese has picked up 28 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers in 2021. Simkins is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with 26, which tie her career high, and ranks second in ground balls (29) and draw controls (51). She also has three assists this season, which are the first of her career.

Goldstock is ninth in the nation in goals-against average (9.15) this season. She posted a career-best 17 saves against Duke and has made eight or more saves in a game six times in 2021. Goldstock is the second player in program history to record 600 career saves. She ranks second on Syracuse's all-time record list with 611, which is 49 behind all-time leader Liz Hogan.

Ward dished out six assists against the Great Danes, which are the most for a freshman in program history. Markey has given the Orange depth in the midfield.
