
Thirteen Orange Qualify for NCAA East Prelims

Update (5/22): Shaleah Colaire has been added to the event in the 400-meter hurdles, bringing Syracuse's total to 13.
Thirteen Syracuse runners are set to compete in the NCAA East prelims, headlined by a combined nine runners in the men's and women's 10,000-meter runs.
Amanda Vestri has the second-fastest time among east region qualifiers heading into next week's 10k. Her time of 32:43.15 is the nation's fifth-fastest to date this season. Teammate Annie Heffernan (32:25.55) is the owner of the seventh-fastest time among competitors in the east. Jordan Jacob, and Abigail Spiers will also run in the 48-person field on Thursday, May 27. The top-12 finishers in the race will book their ticket to Eugene for the NCAA Championships.
The men's race takes place a day prior, on Wednesday, May 27. JP Trojan is Syracuse's top men's qualifier with the 13th-fastest time in the region among the entries. Joe Dragon, Matthew Scrape, Dominic Hockenbury and Silas Derfel will also compete. Like the women's race, it is also a one-race semifinal, with the top-12 advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Syracuse also has a pair of qualifiers in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Aidan Tooker, who has previously scored at the NCAA Championships in the event, looks to qualify again for the men, while Justus Holden-Betts is aiming to reach her first NCAA Championship. The men's steeplechase quarterfinal takes place on Friday, while the women's race is set for Saturday.
Simon Smith qualified for Syracuse in the 1500-meter run. He'll take to the track first for Syracuse on Wednesday evening, aiming to advance to the quarterfinal on Friday.
Races will be hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville from Wednesday, May 26 to Saturday, May 29.
