Field Hockey Lands Five on All-ACC Academic Team

Five members of the Syracuse field hockey team were named to the 2021 All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Field Hockey Academic Team on Monday afternoon. Led by senior Claire Cooke, the Orange also added sophomores Hailey Bitters, Pleun Lammers and and freshmen Florine van Boetzelaer and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof to the list.Â
The All-ACC Academic Team recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative GPA for one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.Â
Cooke, a human development & family science major in Syracuse's Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics appeared in 15 of Syracuse's 16 games this season. She tallied three assists on the season in eight starts for the Orange. In March, she was named a NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction.
Bitters, excelled both on the field and in the classroom during her sophomore campaign. She scored three goals for six points in 15 appearances en route to earning NFHCA All-Mideast Region Second Team honors. Bitters is a nutrition major in Falk College and was a key goal scorer for the Orange late in season finishing her sophomore year with goals in the final two games.Â
Lammers, an NFHCA All-Mideast Region First Team selection is a psychology major in Syracuse's College of Arts and Sciences. Lammers was twice named ACC Offensive Player of the Week this season and finished the year tied for first on the team in goals (5) and second in points (12). She earned All-ACC Second Team honors and had two multi-goal games this season.Â
Van Boetzelaer, another NFHCA All-Region selection for the Orange, appeared in 14 games this season. She is an undeclared major alongside fellow All-ACC Academic Team selection and Syracuse freshman van den Nieuwenhof. The freshman duo accounted for six Syracuse goals and three defensive saves this season. Van den Nieuwenhof was also named NFHCA All-Region First Team and All-ACC First Team.Â
Louisville led the way with seven All-ACC Academic Team selections while Boston College's Jonna Kennedy was named the Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year as the top junior or senior student-athlete with a 3.0 GPA for her career and last two semesters.Â
