SYRACUSE, N.Y.- A Buddy Boeheim and Joe Girard III offensive combination led Syracuse (9-9 overall, 3-4 ACC) to a 91-78 victory against Clemson (10-8 overall, 2-5 ACC). Boeheim had a game-high 25 points, going 9-for-19 (.474) from the field and 4-for-9 (.444) from 3-point range. Girard III had a near perfect game from distance, finishing 4-for-5 (.800) from beyond the arc and 6-for-9 (.667) from the field.
Tigers' sophomore PJ Hall led their offense with a double-double, recording a team-high 19 points and 11 rebounds.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
A 3-point basket from Buddy Boeheim in the final minutes of the first half put the Orange up 40-39 at the end of 20 minutes and marked the last lead change of the contest.
GIRARD III MAKING THREES
Joe Girard III broke up four early points from the Tigers with a shot beyond the arc for Syracuse's first points of the game. The Orange grabbed the edge with another 3-point shot from Girard III that was part of an 18-3 'Cuse scoring run that extended the margin to 21-9 at 12:29 in the opening stanza. Syracuse used a balanced attack during the offensive outburst as every player who won the floor during the stretch scored. Cole Swider led the way with five points.
The Tigers managed to tie the score twice throughout the half, sparking a back-and-forth battle for the lead. Clemson won the battle with back-to-back 3-point baskets from Nick Honor and Al-Amir Dawes to make the score 37-33 with 2:28 left to play in the half before Buddy Boeheim tallied the Orange's final seven points of the half to give Syracuse a 40-39 lead at intermission.
'CUSE CONTROLS
The Orange extended the margin by nine points in the first seven minutes of second-half play while the Tigers continued to threaten in the field keeping the margin within single digits. The largest lead of the half came following a rebound dunk 3-point play from Jesse Edwards putting the score at 85-72 with 1:44 remaining in the contest. Both the Orange and the Tigers managed to put up six more points apiece in the final 70 seconds.
