SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 5 Syracuse men's soccer returns to the SU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. for its final regular season nonconference match against Bucknell. The match will be streaming live on ACCNX, and admission is free of charge.
The Orange are on a three-match winning streak, which is the longest active streak in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Â
ORANGE UPDATE:
'Cuse sits atop the Atlantic Division standings with a record of 11-2-1. It's the first double-digit win season since 2016, and the best record through 14 matches since 2014.
Entering Tuesday night's match, Syracuse is the top-ranked team in the NCAA's RPI Poll and No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches' Poll. The Orange's +22 goal difference ranks first in the ACC.
Sophomore forward Nathan Opoku and senior Levonte Johnson make up a dynamic attacking duo, leading the 'Cuse attack in the 2022 season. Opoku, a transfer from Lindsey Wilson College, leads the ACC in points with 18 and is tied for the conference lead in goals with eight. Johnson leads the Orange in assists with six and has five goals on the year. The Brampton, Ontario native is third in the ACC in points (16) as well.
Syracuse is one of the top defensive units in the nation. The Orange are tied for the national lead in clean sheets with eight and rank fifth in goals against average (.500). Goalkeeper Russell Shealy is on pace for a historic campaign. The Cartersville, Georgia native has a goals against average of .540, which would break Alex Bono's single-season program record of .550 from 2014. Shealy is tied for the ACC lead in saves with 42 and ranks second in shutouts (7), Save Percentage (.857), and goals against average.
After struggles on the road in 2020 and 2021, Syracuse holds an impressive record away from the SU Soccer Stadium in 2022. 'Cuse is 5-0-1 on the road and has a +12-goal difference, which is the best in the ACC.
Against ranked opponents, the Orange have come up clutch. 'Cuse is 5-1 against top-25 foes, which marks the most ranked wins in a regular season in Ian McIntyre's tenure.
Â

Louisville's Josh Jones scored in the 89th minute to cut Syracuse's lead to one, but it would come too late, as the Orange held on for the 2-1 victory. Both teams took 11 shots while Syracuse recorded five shots on target.
