
Field Hockey Climbs in NFHCA Poll

GENEVA, N.Y. – After knocking off two top 20 teams last week, the Syracuse University field hockey team moved up in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll.
Picking up 540 points, the Orange moved up two spots to 11th this week. The Orange spent two weeks earlier this season in that same spot.
North Carolina was slotted first with 997 points and 37 first-place selections. Maryland was second with 934 points. Northwestern was voted third with 906 points and two first-place votes while Iowa was fourth with 849 points and the final first-place nod. Penn State rounded out the top five with 829 points.
The Orange knocked off two ranked teams last week, shutting out No. 16 Boston College 3-0 on Friday before picking off No. 18 James Madison 2-1 in overtime, thanks to a 67th minute goal from Quirine Comans.
All seven ACC teams were in the top 25 this week. Nine teams on the 2022 schedule are ranked this week: No. 1 North Carolina (Oct. 14), No. 6 Virginia (L, 0-3), No. 7 Louisville (Oct. 21), No. 8 Princeton (L, 1-5), No. 14 Wake Forest (Oct. 28), No. 17 James Madison (W, 2-1 OT), No. 19 Boston College (W, 3-0), No. 23 Rutgers (Oct. 23), No. 25 Duke (W, 5-1).
No. 11 Syracuse returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium for a Wednesday, cross-country clash against Stanford. Game time is set for 6 p.m. for the ACC Network game with Leah Secondo and Suzanne Bush on the call.
