Midweek field hockey comes to Central New York as the Syracuse Orange host Stanford Wednesday night under the lights of J.S. Coyne Stadium. It will be the first meetings between programs since 2019 as the Orange look to remain unblemished at home this season.
From the Start
- It's TV time for the Orange as No. 13 Syracuse takes on Stanford under the lights of J.S. Coyne Stadium on Wednesday. The teams meet for the first time since 2019.
- Syracuse went 2-0 last week, knocking off a pair of ranked foes, besting No. 16 Boston College 3-0 in an ACC clash before edging No. 18 James Madison 2-1 in overtime thanks to Quirine Comans' 67th minute strike.
- This is a color rush week of sorts for Syracuse as the ORANGE face the Stanford CARDINAL (Wednesday) and the Cornell Big RED (Sunday).
- After Sunday, four of the next six Syracuse field hockey games will be at home, with matches against Stanford, Cornell, Louisville and Rutgers. Two road games at UNC and Wake Forest remain after this week.
Filling the Net
- The Orange have piled away one or two goals this season, averaging 3.58 goals per game
- Through the first 12 games of the season, Syracuse has racked a combined 43 goals, tied for the sixth-most in the first 12 games of a season in the Ange Bradley Era (2007).
- This marks the eighth time in the Bradley Era Syracuse has scored at least 40 times in the first 12 games.
- The top three scoring marks through 12 games are: 79 (2008), 53 (2015), 52 (2012, 2016). Syracuse would need two goals on Wednesday to hit 45 in the first 13 games for the ninth time in the Bradley Era.
- Through the first five weekends of the season, Syracuse is fourth in Division I in scoring average with 3.80 goals per game and fourth in scoring margin (2.70).
Climbing the Charts
- Last Friday, Charlotte de Vries scored the 36th goal of her Syracuse career, notching what stood as the game-winning goal in the 47th minute against No. 16 Boston College.
- The goal moved de Vries into a three-way tie with Kelsey Millman (209-12) and Maggie Befort (2008-11) for 10th all-time in program history.
- One more goal will move de Vries into another tie, this time for eighth in program history with Martina Loncarica (2008-11) and Heather Susek (2008-11).
- De Vries needs just two points to join the 'Cuse career points chart for a tie at 15th. Shelley Magee scored 85 (25g, 35a) points during her career.

- Syracuse collected its first overtime win of the 2022 season on Sunday, knocking off No. 18 James Madison 2-1 in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
- Quirine Comans provided the game-winner, collecting a juicy rebound from a Joy Haarman shot in the 67th minute.
- It was the first OT GWG for the Orange since besting Duke 3-2 on Nov. 5, 2020 during the ACC Tournament.
- Under the guidance of Ange Bradley, Syracuse has faired very well in overtime games, improving to 38-27 in those games with the narrowest of margins, a .585 winning percentage.
Williamson's #9 Jersey to Be Retired
- Former Syracuse field hockey standout Julie Williamson's #9 jersey will be retired on Oct. 9 prior to the 2 p.m. match at J.S. Coyne Stadium against Cornell.
- Williamson is the first field hockey student-athlete to have a jersey retired.
- During her career (1991-94), Williamson helped lead Syracuse to its first-ever NCAA Tournament (1993) after capturing the BIG EAST title.Â
- Her Orange teams gathered a 52-20-7 mark in that span.
- She was the first three-time NFCHA All-American, a four-time All-Region pick. She graduated as the all-time points leader and still ranks seventh.
- Williamson was the first-ever Orange player selected to play for the USWNT, scoring against France for her first international goal on July 21, 1993.
