Orange Lose Second Game at #12 PSU

The Orange lost to #12 Penn State, 11-3, in the second game of the College Hockey America series at State College, Pa. Syracuse (7-11-1 overall, 4-2 CHA) bounced back in the second period to get within one goal, 4-3, before the Nittany Lions (13-8-1, 5-1) scored the next seven for the for the win. Graduate student Lauren Bellefontaine had one goal and two assists and sophomore Madison Primeau added one goal and one assist. Syracuse will host #13 Vermont on Friday, Dec. 9 (6 pm) and Sat., Dec. 10 (2 pm) at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The games will be streamed on Cuse.com.

"I am proud of our no quit mentality. The team was up and competed until the final buzzer," said head coach Britni Smith. "We will get back to work to prepare for Vermont, another top-15 team."

In the first period, the Orange trailed 2-0 when Primeau put a rebound save into the back of the net to bring the Orange within one, 2-1, with 13 minutes left to play. Bellefontaine assisted on the play. The Nittany Lions scored the next two to take a 4-1 advantage into the locker room after 20 minutes.

Syracuse came out strong to start the second period, scoring back-to-back goals to make the score 4-3. Bellefontaine scored just 1:14 in when she controlled a puck in the neutral zone, skated to the right circle and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Senior Mae Batherson made it 4-3 just three minutes later with a shot from the blue line into the right side of the net. Bellefontaine and Primeau assisted on the goal.
