- It's Syracuse Lacrosse Legends Day, honoring Roy Simmons Jr., Gary Gait and Katie Rowan.

- Be sure to stick around for a top-four battle for the 'Cuse women as the No. 3 Orange host No. 4 Stony Brook. As part of the day's festivities, Katie Rowan will be honored prior to the game (at 3:34 p.m.).

LACROSSE LEGENDS DAY
- It'll be a historic day in the Dome on Sunday, as legendary head coach Roy Simmons Jr. becomes the sixth person enshrined in the Syracuse Athletics ring of honor, plus Gary Gait and Katie Rowan become the first two lacrosse players to have their jerseys retired.
- Simmons Jr. joins Jim Brown, Floyd Little, Ernie Davis, Jim Boeheim and Pearl Washington in the Ring of Honor in the Dome. The six are honored for their incredible contributions to Syracuse University that transcend the sport.
- Gait, the greatest player of all time, becomes the first men's lacrosse player to have his jersey retired. The four-time All-American, three-time NCAA Champion and two-time National Player of the Year, will be honored prior to the game. While his jersey will hang in the rafters forever, the legendary No. 22 won't be coming out of circulation, as Syracuse is honoring his jersey, not retiring the number.
- Later in the day, Katie Rowan will be celebrated at the SU women's game vs. Stony Brook, becoming the first women's lacrosse player and second woman at Syracuse to have her jersey retired. Rowan is Syracuse lacrosse's all-time leader in points (396).Â
THE MARYLAND SERIES
- Despite spending one season in the same conference and historically being two of the sport's three winningest programs, Syracuse and Maryland have met just 17 times in program history, and only five times in the last-30 years.Â
- Maryland won the most recent meeting, an NCAA Quarterfinal game in 2016, to extend their lead to 11-6 in the all-time series.Â
- Two current members of the program - goalie Bobby Gavin (Virginia) and attackman John Cohen (Johns Hopkins) - have played against Maryland last season, but neither saw game action in those contests. Cohen and the Blue Jays played Maryland three times, losing all three, while Gavin's Virginia squad defeated the Terps in the NCAA title game.
- Maryland has one former Orange player on its roster. Star attackman Logan Wisnauskas redshirted the 2017 season as a member of 'Cuse. He was teammates with Nick DiPietro and Brett Kennedy for one season. Then transferred to Maryland for the 2017-18 season.Â
- Orange head coach Gary Gait began his coaching career with the Terps women as an assistant under Cindy Timchal, where he helped the program win seven consecutive NCAA Championships.
- The coordinators in this game are especially familiar with one another. Orange Defensive Coordinator Dave Pietramala and Maryland offensive coordinator Bobby Benson spent 14 seasons together on staff at Johns Hopkins, where Benson was the OC under Pietramala. The two helped the Blue Jays win the 2007 NCAA Championship together.Â
AGAINST #1
- Syracuse is 10-13 all-time against the nation's No. 1 ranked team in the USILA Poll, with Sunday's game serving as the first matchup against the top-ranked team since Syracuse defeated then No. 1 Notre Dame on April 1, 2017.
- Syracuse is 4-3 at home against No. 1, having won back-to-back games against the No. 1 team in the Dome, (both in 2011, when Syracuse defeated Virginia when the teams were co-Number 1s and later in the year when SU beat Notre Dame).
A GAUNTLET LIES AHEAD
- Syracuse will play the two teams tied for No. 1 in the USILA Poll in the span of six days next week, hosting Maryland on Sunday and then hitting the road to face Virginia the following Saturday.
- Every single opponent left on the Orange's 2022 schedule is at least receiving votes in this week's poll.
AGAINST THE B1G
- Syracuse enters Saturday's game with a 125-61-2 record all-time against the six current members of the Big Ten.
- This is the first B1G Ten opponent Syracuse has played since the 2020 season. The Orange will also face Johns Hopkins during this year's regular season and had scrimmages against Ohio State (fall) and Michigan (preseason) this year.
- 'Cuse has faced JHU (28-30-1), Penn State (46-11-1), Rutgers (42-9), Maryland (6-11), and Ohio State (2-0). The Orange has never faced Michigan.
EFFICIENT ORANGE
- Syracuse had one of its most efficient offensive performances on record in their season-opening 28-5 win over Holy Cross.
- Syracuse notched 19 goals in the first half, which is the most in program history.
- The 23-goal margin of victory is the largest margin of victory in Carrier Dome history.
- Perhaps even more impressive was the efficiency the offense scored with. Syracuse scored 28 goals on 49 shots (57.1 shot percentage). That's the highest shooting percentage on record in Syracuse lacrosse history. It was the first time 'Cuse shot better than 50-percent since April 5, 2017 at Hobart, when the Orange notched 17 goals on 31 shots (.548).
- Of the 10 players who took multiple shots on Saturday, nine shot over 50-percent. Only Liam Ferris (who went 2-of-5) was below the marker.
HALLS OF FAME
- Gary Gait, Casey Powell and Pat McCabe were all members of the inaugural Pro Lacrosse Hall of Fame class, which was announced on Feb. 15.Â
- The Hall of Fame, which is managed by the Premier Lacrosse League, announced an 11-man class consisting of a player for each of the 10 starting field positions (3 A, 3 M, 3 D, 1 G) and a specialist.Â
- Syracuse was the only school to have multiple alumni selected in the inaugural class, which is fitting as the Orange also own the records for most professional lacrosse draft picks of all time and most first round selections.Â
- All three are already members of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame for their collegiate play. Gait is now a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, NLL Hall of Fame, Pro Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.
A WIN AGAINST MARYLAND WOULD...
- Improve 'Cuse to 5-3 at home vs. the nation's top-ranked team and 11-13 overall.
- Give Gary Gait a 2-0 start to his career. Roy Simmons Jr. (4-0) and John Desko (3-0) are the only two prior coaches (of four) to start their head coaching career for the SU men with a winning streak.
- Be the program's 926th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Snap a three-game losing streak vs. Maryland.
