
‘Cuse Loses to Hokies in ACC Opener

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Orange lost to Virginia Tech by a 4-3 final score in a closely contested ACC opening match on Friday afternoon. No. 67-ranked Syracuse now stands at 6-2 and is set to face the No. 9 Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. 
 
Syracuse started hot with two doubles victories to take the doubles point, both by a score of 6-3. Shiori Ito and Sofya Treshcheva won their second match out of the No. 1 doubles position, good for their fourth consecutive match together. Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva also won their fourth straight doubles contest.
 
Kozyreva continued her strong form to begin the spring season as she improved to 8-0 with another singles victory. Kanapatskaya took down the Hokies' No. 1 player Tamara Barad Itzhaki, 6-4, 6-3. Virginia Tech took the remaining four singles matches to secure the win and move to 5-5.
