Dordevic sets a career high with nine points
A dominant second half, including an 8-0 run, propelled Syracuse to a 14-9 win over Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Tucker Dordevic was nearly unstoppable, netting a career-high six goals and nine points. Bobby Gavin returned to the starting lineup in cage, making 13 saves to anchor a defensive unit that posted one of its best efforts to date.
"I'm happy we were able to wrap up our spring break with a win," said head coach Gary Gait. "I thought Stony Brook was a solid team that played well, and in the third quarter we really stepped it up and finished the game."
Dordevic has now posted five-or-more goals on four different occasions this season. Brendan Curry had a strong day as well, scoring three goals and adding two assists, while Owen Seebold also had a hat trick.
'Cuse started the scoring first, when Dordevic found Mikey Berkman with little more than 10 minutes remaining in the first. Dylan Pallonetti and Wayne White answered back quickly to give the Seawolves the lead. A scoring fury in the final two minutes of the quarter, with the Orange notching two goals in the span, including a Curry tally with two ticks left, gave SU a 4-3 lead after one.
Cordes scored Syracuse's lone goal of the second quarter, but a pair of Stony Brook scores had the game knotted at 4 at the intermission.
Pallonetti scored the first goal of the second half, but it was all Syracuse after that. Dordevic scored five goals in the run, which spanned from 12:30 of the third quarter, until Stony Brook finally scored again with 3:42 left.
The Seawolves scored three of the game's final four goals to inch closer, but the Orange were too much on the day.
The defense's superb play was headlined by holding Stony Brook to 2-of-7 on man-up. Nick Caccamo had four caused turnovers as well, his second time in three games with four caused turnovers. Caccamo and Brett Kennedy each had four ground balls too.
The Orange return home on Saturday to host Duke. Faceoff is scheduled for Noon.
