Syracuse (7-6, 1-5) hosts a pair of top-25 ACC foes this weekend at the Drumlins Tennis Club. No. 23 Wake Forest (10-6, 2-3) visits on Friday, followed by the ITA's No. 2 North Carolina State (17-1, 5-0) on Sunday. Both matches will be available for streaming through ACCNX. The Orange lost their two most recent matches against No. 1 North Carolina and No. 5 Duke after a home victory over Clemson.
The Orange dropped their match to the Demon Deacons last April. Wake Forest is led by No. 92 sophomore Casie Wooten, who boasts an 11-3 spring singles record. Wake's No. 1 player, Carolyn Campana, is featured on the ITA's rankings at No. 48. Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth, Wake's top doubles duo and the ITA's No. 8, are 7-3 out of the first doubles position. Wake Forest lost to NC State on Mar. 8 but picked up ACC wins over Florida State and Clemson. Friday's match will be the 14th between the two ACC schools.
The Wolfpack come to town on Sunday after they travel westward from a match with Boston College on Mar. 25. NC State's 5-0 start to ACC play is its best in program history. The second-ranked squad is coming off a victory over No. 27 Georgia Tech, which it had previously lost all but one of 23 matches against. The Orange's most recent win over NC State came in April of 2018 as No. 5 Gabriela Knutson notched the 17th victory of her All-American campaign. Grad student Jaeda Daniel plays out of the first slot for the Wolfpack and comes in at No. 14 on the ITA's rankings. NC State's Abigail Rencheli and Alana Smith are also ranked in the top 35.
Catch up with the Orange
The Orange hold a 7-6 record with seven matches remaining on the spring schedule. The group's strong non-conference mark is the reason Syracuse has the ACC's ninth-highest win percentage. Coach Limam's squad has reached the eight-win mark in all seven of his seasons with Syracuse, and the team has the chance to continue that streak this weekend.
Orange No. 1 Viktoriya Kanapatskaya has five wins out of the top singles spot and has already won eight matches this spring compared to last year's total of 10. Junior Polina Kozyreva has the chance to equal her win total from a year ago and set a new career high this weekend as she plays for her 10th and 11th singles victories.
Freshmen Miyuka Kimoto and Shiori Ito have seven singles victories and eight doubles triumphs each; their 15 total match wins tie for second on the team behind Kanapatskaya's and Kozyreva's 16each. Ito has shown comfort out of the No. 4 position with a 5-1 mark. Kimoto has five wins of her own out of the No. 2 spot.
Senior Sofya Treshcheva has a team-leading five doubles wins from the top doubles spot. She's found success with Ito as the two cracked off a five-match winning streak earlier this season. Sophomore Ines Fonte built on her strong 4-2 doubles record from the fall and has seven paired wins this spring, including five consecutive successful outings with Kanpatskaya to open the season.
