
First Night of Virginia Challenge Comes with Haul of PRs

Abigail Spiers won the 5000-meter run in a personal-best time of 16:09.21 to headline day one of the Virginia Challenge.
Spiers was one of a number of Orange PRs on the first day of the two-day meet on the track in Charlottesville.
In the 1500-meter run, Nathan Henderson continued his strong season with a fifth-place time of 3:42.03. His mark was a new personal best in the event. For the women, Annie Boos led the way with a time of 4:21.07, which earned her 19th place.
Joe Dragon posted a new personal-best of 13:41.04 in the 5k to take 15th. Teammate Matthew Scrape (13:56.81) also had a personal record in the race. Noah Beveridge won the first section of the event in a PR time of 14:13.88 to lead four Orange in that section of the race. Sam Lawler finished fourth (14:17.27), followed by Nathan Lawler (12th) and Ethan Wechsler (19th).
Ellie Lawler ran a PR in the 10k, crossing the line in 34:56.02, which was good for 15th. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley was wo places behind in 35:01.02.
Besides Spiers' PR, two other Orange runners raced in another section of the 5k. Emma Eastman finished fourth in her section in 16:57.75, which was a PR. Teammate Olivia Joly finished in 17:19.59 in the same race.
Trei Thorogood turned in another personal best in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.66 seconds. He was 14th overall. Kaleia Arrington finished the women's race in 12.54 seconds.
Kevin Robertson posted a new PR in the steeplechase, finishing in 8:46.98, which earned him eighth place. Justus Holden-Betts finished the women's race in 22nd with a mark of 10:41.02.
Kennedy Tarley also had a PR in the 400 in 57.50 seconds.
The meet continues on Saturday.
