
Syracuse Loses Exhibition Match Against Villanova

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- Syracuse men's soccer lost its second exhibition of the 2022 preseason schedule to BIG EAST opponent Villanova, 2-1. The Orange recorded six shots on goal compared to the Wildcats' four shots on target.
After a closely contested first 40 minutes, Villanova junior forward Akinjide Awujo opened the scoring. Just six minutes into the second half, the Orange equalized as sophomore forward Julius Rauch headed in a cross from Aidan Arber. The Wildcats found the winning goal in the 83rd minute with a shot from Lyam Mackinnon.
The Orange wrap up their preseason preparations on Saturday, Aug. 20 against Saint Francis at the SU Soccer Stadium. The exhibition kicks off at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Regular season play begins on Thursday, Aug. 25th at 5 p.m. with a home contest against Iona.
