The 2023 Orange season will begin Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Head of the Charles. Syracuse's varsity eight and second varsity eight. The regatta, which began in 1965, is held on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass. Both of Syracuse's boats will compete in the Women's Championship Eight event, which begins at 2:32 pm.
Â
The Orange varsity eight will race in 'No Brakes' with bow #11. It will start behind the Yale 'A' eight and ahead of the Radcliffe 'A' eight. The 'Cuse second varsity eight will race the 'Team 44' with bow #20, starting behind the Boston University 'A' eight and ahead of the British Columbia 'A' eight.
Â
The Head of the Charles racecourse starts at the Boston University Boathouse and goes almost immediately under the combination of a railroad trestle bridge and the BU Bridge. It then proceeds through five triple-arch bridges to the finish line approximately three miles upstream. Since 1965, the Head Of The Charles Regatta has grown tremendously. Today, more than 11,000 athletes from around the world compete in 55 different race events. In 1997, the Regatta grew to a two-day event and now attracts thousands of spectators during race weekend in October. Support from numerous boat clubs, colleges and universities, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), as well as 1,700 hardworking volunteers help make the HOCR a continued success year after year.
