Orange Open Fall Season at Head of the Charles
10/22/2023 5:28:00 PM | Women's Rowing
The Syracuse varsity eight finished 13th and the second varsity eight took 26th in the Women's Championship Eight race at the 58th annual Head of the Charles on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass.
Â
"The varsity eight was moving really well, especially with the timing check to Weld, then they had a little misadventure between Weld and CBC where they got hung up on a buoy and had to stop and take it off, but then responded really well and closed out the last section of the race," said head coach Luke McGee.
Â
"It was a fun week for the 2V8 seeing them come together. It is a bit of a younger crew. They raced hard and did well coming through the turns. They made some really good progress this week. This is a good opportunity to see a lot of competitors and race in front of a lot of people to learn how to do that before the big races in the spring."
Â
Junior Caileigh Grimes coxed the varsity eight, which finished eighth among college boats, finishing the three-mile course in 16:48.842. The boat included stroke Zoe Acosta, seven-seat Emmie Frederico, six-seat Ellie-Kate Hutchinson, five-seat Kamile Kralikaite, four-seat Minaya Bishop, three-seat Aphrodite Gioulekas, two-seat India Aikens and bow Alena Criss.
Â
The second varsity eight covered the course in 17:36.444, The crew included junior coxswain April Serrano, stroke Elizabeth Vogt, seven-seat Lauren Coop, six-seat Nora Radke, five-seat Lena Radke, four-seat Taylor Lewandowski, three-seat Kaite Dennis, two-seat Grace Loveridge and bow Mae Sweeney.
