Syracuse defenseman Rachel Teslak scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and forward Sarah Thompson tallied her second gool of the year in Syracuse's 6-2 loss to #15 Penn State on Sunday at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Syracuse (3-7-1 overall, 0-2 College Hockey America) trailed 2-1 after two periods and then Penn State (3-6-1, 2-0) outscored the Orange 4-1 in the third period.

"I think we have a team that believes we can do that, that we can beat the Penn State's of the world. I believe that as well. We went over some video (of yesterday's game) and had a really good game plan in place, and they executed very well for about 90 percent of the game today. Overall we are very happy with our play and, obviously, that 10 percent that Penn State was able to capitalize on is our focus now," said head coach Britni Smith.
Â
With 14 seconds remaining in the first period, Penn State's Julie Gough gave the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes into the second period, Thompson evened the score. Forward Rayla Clemons fed the puck to forward Marielle McHale on the left side of the goal and McHale sent a pass across the crease to Thompson on the weakside and Thompson one-timed it into the net. Penn State took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period on a goal by Mya Vaslet.
Â
In the third period, Penn State scored three straight goals in the first nine minute of the frame to take a 5-1 lead. Teslak cut the lead to three, 5-2, with her score. Forward Tatum White won a faceoff sending the puck back to Darci Johal and then Johal found Teslak for the score. Both Teslak and Johal had one goal and one assist in the weekend series against the Nittany Lions. White won 24 faceoffs, which is the most by a CHA player this season.
Â
Orange goaltender Allie Kelley recorded 35 saves on Sunday, giving her a series total of 74. She has had at least 30 saves in six consecutive games.
Â
Syracuse will play at Robert Morris on Friday, Nov. 3 (6 pm) and Saturday, Nov. 4 (3 pm) in a CHA series.
