
Pair Earn NFHCA All-America Honors

GENEVA, N.Y. – Two Syracuse University field hockey standouts were named among the nation's best as the NFHCA announced its All-America teams for the 2023 season. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its All-America honors, presented by The LineUp, Tuesday morning.
Eefke van den Nieuwenhof was selected NFHCA First Team All-America, the fourth time in her Syracuse career she was named to the All-America list. Pieke van de Pas was named NFHCA Second Team All-America, the graduate student's first career All-America plaudits.
The second player in Syracuse field hockey history to earn NFHCA All-America honors four times, van den Nieuwenhof was also named as the 2023 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and is a four-time NFHCA All-Region and All-ACC selection. She led the Orange in scoring this year, racking 14 goals and four assists for 32 points. She tallied half of her goals on penalty corner chances, while converting a national-best six penalty strokes this season. Defensively, the senior anchored a defense that finished with a goals against average of 1.83 in nearly 1,100 minutes of action. The Syracuse defense allowed just 4.11 opponent penalty corners per game. The co-captain served as a center back that held opponents to one goal or less nine times, including a pair of shutouts.
Van de Pas earned her first-ever NFHCA All-America honors after her graduate student season with the Orange. An All-ACC and NFHCA All-Region honoree, she notched 11 goals and a team-best nine assists for 31 points. In her second career game with the Orange, van de Pas racked eight points with a hat trick and two assists. An All-ACC First Team pick, van de Pas had eight games with multiple points, opening her time with Syracuse on a three-game goal streak, bookended with a three-game point streak down the stretch. She assisted on the overtime game-winning goal against No. 7 Liberty in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
