WASHINGTON, DC – Graduate student Meaghan Tyrrell, a finalist for last year's Tewaaraton Award, is one of four Syracuse players named to the Watch List for the 2023 award. Tyrrell, seniors Kate Mashewske and Emma Tyrrell and junior Emma Ward were part of the Watch List announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Friday, February 10.
Â
The Watch List includes players from across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse. The Tewaaraton Award is presented annually to the top female and male college lacrosse players in the nation.
Â
Meaghan Tyrrell is the only returning Tewaaraton Award finalist from 2022. The Mt. Sinai, N.Y. native ranked sixth in the nation in goals (78) and seventh in points (111) last season. She scored four or more goals in 13 of 21 games in 2022 and surpassed 100 points in a season for the second consecutive year.
Â
Mashewske had a breakout season in the draw circle last season. She ranked sixth in the nation in draw controls, averaging 8.48 per game. Mashewske finished the year with 178, which ranked third on Syracuse's single-season record list.
Â
Emma Tyrrell ranked third on the team in points with 50 (30g, 20a) last season despite playing just 12 games. She posted four or more points six times in 2022. Tyrrell recorded a career-high 64 draw controls, which ranked second on the squad.
Â
Ward returns this spring after missing all of last season with an injury. As a freshman, Ward ranked second on the team with 73 points on 43 goals and 30 assists. She helped the Orange advance to the national championship game when she averaged 4.75 points per game in four NCAA Tournament contests.
Â
No. 5 Syracuse opens the 2023 campaign on Saturday, February 11 when it hosts No. 4 Northwestern at 12 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. Tickets are available at Cuse.com/Ticketing.
