Jaheem Hayles ran his second-straight personal best in the NCAA 60-meter hurdles final on Saturday night, giving him a fourth-place finish.
Hayles' mark makes him the second member of the Orange to score and earn All-America honors at the meet, following Amanda Vestri's sixth-place finish in the 5000-meter final on Friday night.
He crossed the line in 7.61 seconds, bettering his semifinal time by 0.02 seconds, and marking his third-straight race with a PR dating back to the ACC Championships. He got out of the blocks with the leaders and finished within 0.02 seconds of the second-place finisher. Clemson's Giano Roberts won the title in 7.55 seconds.
The five points Hayles garnered placed the Orange 41st as a team, while Vestri's three put the women in 38th. 'Cuse has scored at all-four NCAA Championship events between the cross country and indoor track meets this season.
A Syracuse hurdler has now placed inside the top-four of the 60-meter hurdles at nationals in four of the last-12 NCAA Championships. Hayles' time now makes him the second-fastest man in program history in the event, trailing just 2012 NCAA Champion Jarret Eaton (7.49) and edging out two-time NCAA runner-up Freddie Crittenden III's collegiate best of 7.64. Both of the others have gone on to win U.S. Championships in the event as professionals as well.
The Orange will now have two weeks off from competition before the outdoor slate begins.
