Syracuse advances to second round of WNIT
Dyaisha Fair (24 points) collared her 16th 20-plus point game of the season in Syracuse's (19-12), 84-56, victory against Kent State (21-11) in the opening round of the WNIT. The win marks the first postseason triumph of the Felisha Legette-Jack Era.Â
Dariauna Lewis matched a season-best 17 points and 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. It marked the sixth game in the last eight which she scored in double-digits. Georgia Woolley had 13 points extending her streak to 10-straight games scoring at least 12 points. Teisha Hyman had a balanced stat line off the bench with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and just one turnover in 26 minutes.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
After trailing by three at the end of the first frame, the Orange effectively secured the postseason victory with a 15-3 scoring stretch to close out the first half. Fair led four Orange scorers with seven points. Woolley closed the run with a layup and gave SU its largest lead of the half, 38-29. Down the stretch in the second half, Syracuse extended its lead to as many as 29 points, putting the game out of reach for Kent State.

Midway through the opening quarter, Syracuse constructed a 7-2 run. Lewis opened the stretch with a jumper and forward Asia Strong closed the run with two makes at the foul line. 'Cuse led Kent State, 11-9 with four minutes left in the first frame.Â

The Golden Flashes kept the game close with a 7-2 spurt of their own to close out the final four minutes of the first quarter. Katie Shumate completed Kent State's run before SU's Lewis netted the final basket of the frame, and KSU held a slim, 16-13, advantage.

To open the second quarter, 'Cuse put 10 of the first 15 points on the board. Fair led with six points and Woolley added four. With five minutes left before the break, Syracuse led by two, 23-21.

Fair scored 13 points during a 24-8 Syracuse run over a 7:56 stretch for the Orange from the end of the second quarter into the third. It extended the SU lead to 20, 57-37, with 3:10 to play in the third.

After Shumate opened the final frame with back-to-back free throws for the Golden Flashes, Syracuse netted the following 20 of 27 points and led 82-53 with under two minutes to play. The Orange saw seven performers find the net during the electric run. Kyra Wood and Hyman led SU with four points apiece in the spurt.
