TALLAHASSEE, FL. – A fourth inning rally lifted defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion No. 6 Florida State past Syracuse softball, 10-0, in the series opener.
All 10 runs were scored in the fourth inning, as Seminoles starter Kathryn Sandercock pitched a complete game. Lindsey Hendrix started in the circle for the Orange. The Orlando, Florida native pitched three-innings, striking out one batter and allowing two runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first three innings of the series opener were scoreless, as both pitching staffs started strong. Syracuse (7-12, 0-4 ACC) got a runner in scoring position early, as leadoff hitter Angie Ramos reached second on a bunt and throwing error. Sandercock retired the next three batters to end the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first, Hendrix escaped a bases loaded jam. Two walks and a fielder's choice loaded the bases for the Seminoles (22-6, 1-0). A ground out from outfielder Jahni Kerr ended the inning, keeping the score level at zero.
The Seminoles opened the scoring in the fourth inning. Junior infielder Devyn Flaherty started the frame by reaching safely on a fielding error. After a fly ball out from Kerr, six straight Seminole batters drew walks, scoring the first five runs of the game. The next three runs of the game were scored on a fielder's choice, a hit by pitch, and a walk from catcher Michaela Edenfield, 8-0. A groundout from infielder Mack Leonard and an RBI single from infielder Amaya Ross drove in the final runs of the game, 10-0.
Syracuse was held hitless for the first time since a 6-0 loss to Georgia Tech in the 2021 ACC Tournament. Florida State scored 10 runs on two hits in the run-rule victory, as the Seminoles drew 11 walks.
