
Softball Loses Series Against #6 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, FL. – A strong hitting performance pushed No. 6 Florida State to a 5-1 win against Syracuse softball. The Seminoles scored their five runs on eight hits.
The Orange trailed by two runs after four innings, but a two-run fifth inning allowed Florida State to put the game out of reach. Right-hander Madison Knight started in the circle for Syracuse, pitching 4.2 innings. Florida State starter Allison Royalty logged four innings, recording three strikeouts on two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Florida State's (23-6, 2-0 ACC)Â bats got going quickly, scoring two runs in the first frame. Patience paid off in the batter's box, as the Seminoles loaded the bases on three straight walks with two outs. Outfielder Jahni Kerr split the infield with a single, bringing home two runners, 2-0.
In the following inning, the hosts added to their lead. Infielder Bethany Keen roped a leadoff double down the foul line. Outfielder Kaley Mudge scored the runner on a groundout, 3-0.
Syracuse (7-13, 0-5) responded in the third inning, cutting into the Seminole advantage. Infielder Tessa Galipeau started the frame with a double past the right fielder. Outfielder Gabby Lantier subbed in for Galipeau on the base paths, as the freshman advanced to third on a wild pitch. With the count full, Starr sent a single up the middle, recording the first run for Syracuse, 3-1.Â
The Seminoles generated insurance runs in the fifth inning. Infielder Devyn Flaherty started the frame with a single, followed by another single from Keer. A groundout from catcher Michaela Edenfield restored the three-run advantage, 4-1. Keen logged her second hit of the day, bringing in the last run of the game, 5-1.Â
Syracuse scored one run on two hits, snapping a two-game scoreless streak. Knight pitched 4.2 innings, logging one strikeout while allowing five runs. Kaia Oliver contributed 1.1 relief innings, allowing one hit and no runs with one strikeout.Â
