Syracuse Drops Series Finale Against #6 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, FL. – Syracuse softball lost the series finale against No. 6 Florida State on Sunday afternoon, 8-0. The Seminoles, the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions, hit three home runs, a high by a Syracuse opponent in a single-game this season.

Lindsey Hendrix started in the circle for the second time this series. The junior pitched three innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A scoreless first frame was followed by a run from the Seminoles (24-6, 3-0 ACC) in the second inning. An Orange (7-14, 0-6) fielding error allowed a leadoff runner on second. The runner moved to third on a groundout in the next at-bat, as a squeeze bunt from infielder Devyn Flaherty scored the opening run, 1-0.

The hosts tagged on three runs in the third inning. Outfielder Kalei Wacaser started the inning with a solo home run to deep left field, her second hit of the game, 2-0. With two outs, designated player Mack Leonard kept the inning alive with a single. Back-to-back hits from infielders Bethany Keen and Josie Muffley added two runs, 4-0.

In the fourth, infielder Kalei Harding drove a ball to left field for Florida State's second home run of the game, 5-0. A walk from infielder Katie Dack and Wacaser's third hit of the day set the table for a three-run home run from outfielder Jahni Keer, 8-0.

Syracuse logged two hits against Florida State, as outfielders Angie Ramos and Madelyn Lopez recorded singles.

UP NEXT:

The Orange are back in New York for a midweek doubleheader at Canisius on Wednesday, Mar. 22, with first pitch times of 2 and 4:30 p.m. Both games will be streaming live on ESPN+. Syracuse resumes ACC play at Notre Dame on Friday, Mar. 24.
