Junior lefthander Lindsey Hendrix yielded just one run and struck out five to lead the Orange in game one. Hendrix improved to 4-6 on the year. She held the Golden Griffs to three hits. Freshman Madison Knight tossed two innings of scoreless relief to earn her first career save. Knight struck out the final two batters she faced in the seventh.
In the second game, senior Kaia Oliver held Canisius scoreless and struck out four in five innings of work out of the bullpen. She improved her season record to 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:
Host Canisius got on the board first. Rosie Gomez hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the second inning to put the Golden Griffs ahead, 1-0.
The Orange were held hitless through the first three innings before breaking through in the fourth frame. Sophomore Angie Ramos drew a lead-off walk. After senior Yamila Evans struck out, sophomore Kelly Breen singled deep to shortstop and Ramos advanced to third when the ground ball was mishandled. Breen then stole second. A bunt single by junior Angel Jasso plated Ramos, tying the contest. Freshman Madelyn Lopez then put the Orange ahead with a sacrifice fly to center that scored pinch-runner Gabby Lantier, a freshman who was running for Breen.
Syracuse increased it's advantage in the seventh inning when Lopez clubbed the first home run of her collegiate career, a blast to right field.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:
Canisius used a first-inning, two-run home run by Nicole Rivait to grab and early 2-0 lead. The Orange tied things up after producing four hits in the second inning, only to have Canisius move back ahead, 4-2.Â
Syracuse got busy in the third inning. Sophomore Taylor Posner and Breen opened the frame with back-to-back singles that put runners at first and third. Jasso plated Posner with a ground out and after Knight drew a walk, Junior Jude Padilla drove home two with a double off the fence. The Orange finished the inning with a 5-4 advantage they would not relinquish.
Knight provided Syracuse with a larger margin with her two-run single in the fifth inning.Â
