
Syracuse Loses Game One Of Notre Dame Series

SOUTH BEND, IN. – Syracuse softball dropped the series opener to Atlantic Coast Conference foe Notre Dame, 10-2. The score was tied at two after two innings, but a five run Notre Dame rally in the third decided the game.
Junior left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix got the start for the Orange, as the Orlando, Florida native pitched 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Notre Dame starter Payton Tidd threw a complete game, striking out two while logging two hits and four RBIs at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Notre Dame's (18-7, 4-3 ACC) bats got started early, scoring a pair of runs in the first frame. Catcher Carlli Kloss laced a leadoff double to deep left. The junior scored in the next at-bat on a passed ball, 1-0. The Fighting Irish kept the inning going, loading the bases with two walks and a hit from infielder Karina Gaskins. Tidd brought home the second run with a sacrifice fly, 2-0.
In the second, Syracuse (9-15, 0-7) responded by tying up the game. On the first pitch of the inning, outfielder Angel Jasso lined a ball up the middle for a single. Catcher Laila Alves launched a ball off the wall for a double, giving the Orange runners on second and third. Designated player Olivia Pess knocked a ball into shallow left field, scoring the tying runs, 2-2.
The back-and-forth scoring continued in the third inning, as the Fighting Irish logged three runs. Gaskins hit a home run past the right field fence to begin the Notre Dame half of the frame, her second hit of the game, 3-2. A walk and double from Joley Mitchell set up a two-run RBI double from Tidd, 5-2. The Fighting Irish scored two more before the inning ended, scoring one on a fielder's choice and another on a single from Kloss, 7-2.
The Fighting Irish extended their lead in the fourth inning. Back-to-back doubles from Tidd and outfielder Jane Kronenberg drove in two more runs, 9-2. Outfielder Mickey Winchell drove in the final run of the game with a single to left field, 10-2.
The Orange scored two runs on three hits, as Pess drove in multiple runs for the first time this season in her third start.
