We continue our Q&A series with senior Savannah Sweitzer.
What is it like playing college lacrosse with your sister?
It's amazing to have her with me on this journey. It's been special. She's someone I can lean on. She's an incredible lacrosse player but also a great person. And she's good to have by my side through the ups and downs of college lacrosse and college life in general. It's pretty awesome and very special.
When did you start playing lacrosse and why did you pick up the sport?
I started playing lacrosse in the third grade. My older brother started playing and we always did what he did. He played football, so Delaney and I played football. So, when he started playing lacrosse, we really wanted to play boys lacrosse. They didn't have a girls team in our area, so we played boys. I was actually a goalie before Delaney. But I was scared so she got in goal. That's how that came to be.
Did you, Delaney and your brothers play together in the backyard?
We were always in the backyard, fighting. It usually turned into a fist fight. But it made us better, tougher.
Do you have any advice for a young lacrosse player?
You can do anything you put your mind to. Just believe in yourself. Put in the time, put in the hard work consistently. Really anything is possible.
You came to Syracuse prior to your junior season. How would you describe the culture of the program?
I feel like the moment I stepped on campus everyone was so welcoming. They take you exactly for who you are. You're allowed to be yourself – from the administration, to the coaching staff, to the kids on the team. I feel it's a cliché and people say it all the time, but we are a family. Syracuse lacrosse is family. There's on the field things and off the field things you are going to need assistance with just with the ebbs and flows of college life. I feel like the coaches and my teammates really have your back and you can really feel that support. I've been here such a short amount of time and I felt that.
You've been mentioned for this many times so, other than you, who is the funniest on the team?
Someone that makes me laugh is Meaghan Tyrrell. She is just a one-line machine. She's so nonchalantly funny that it makes it better. We have a lot of good comedy on the team, a lot of good vibes. Sierra Cockerille also makes me laugh.
You've been mentioned for this as well. Who is the best dancer?
I do get best dancer sometimes! I'm a goofball so whatever goes. Olivia Adamson throws in some good moves.
Who is the best dressed?
I would say Sierra Cockerille. I would say she and I have very similar styles. We're always wearing the same things.
