The Orange are ranked eighth in this week's Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll, up two spots from last week after winning the Doc Hosea Invitational and retaining the Orange Challenge Cup. The ranking matches the highest in program history. Syracuse was ranked eighth in the seventh week of the 2021 season.
Â
At the Doc Hosea Invitational the Orange won three races, including the varsity eight Orange Challenge Cup, and had one second place and two third place finishes on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. Syracuse won the sixth Doc Hosea Invitational title by two points over 8th-ranked Penn. Northeastern finished third, while Bucknell was fourth and Villanova placed fifth.
Â
The 'Cuse varsity eight beat Penn and Northeastern to bring home the Orange Challenge Cup for the fifth time in a row. The Orange edged Penn by .74 seconds and Northeastern by 14.77 seconds to win the Orange Challenge Cup, which is one of the oldest trophies in women's rowing dating back to 1977. It is the 14th Orange Challenge Cup victory for Syracuse. Northeastern has won the trophy 16 times, while Penn has taken home the trophy nine times.
Â
Both of Syracuse's fours won their races. The varsity four beat Penn, Northeastern and Bucknell, and the second varsity four took first in its race, ahead of Penn, Bucknell and Northeastern.
Â
The Orange will race at the Saratoga Invitational against 3rd-ranked Yale and Cornell on April 8th on Saturday, April 8 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
