
Syracuse Loses ACC Quarterfinal Against #3 Florida State

SOUTH BEND, IND. - Syracuse softball's 2023 season ends in the ACC Quarterfinals, as the Orange fell short against #3 Florida State, 4-1. Three different Orange batters tallied hits, as Kelly Breen, Madelyn Lopez and Ryan Starr all finished with a single.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
After a scoreless first inning, Syracuse (24-26-1, 7-15-1 ACC)Â took the lead in the second inning. Laila Alves opened the inning with a leadoff walk, advancing to third on back-to-back ground outs. Lopez sent the first pitch of her bat up the middle for an RBI-single, putting Syracuse in the driver's seat, 1-0.
The Seminoles (48-8, 22-2) tied the game up in the third inning, as Josie Muffley drove a solo home run to left field, her second of the season, 1-1. Later in the frame, Florida State took the lead on a two-out, two-run RBI double from Mack Leonard, 3-1.Â
In the fifth inning, Leonard lined her third hit of the day, scoring the fourth and final run of the game, 4-1.
Syracuse finished with one run on three hits, as left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix tossed her ninth complete game of the season, holding the potent Seminole offense to four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.Â
