Abigail Spiers' 5k race wrapped up the NCAA East Preliminary Round for the Orange on Saturday night, bringing a close a successful meet that saw four members of the squad punch their tickets to Austin.
Spiers crossed the line in 16:30.63, which was 16th in her heat, while Amaris Tyynismaa of NC State won the race in 15:51.41.
After qualifying the most runners in five years for the prelim meet, four will head to the NCAA Championships in Austin in two weeks. Paul O'Donnell (10,000-meters), Amanda Vestri (10,000-meters), Jaheem Hayles (110-meter hurdles) and Kevin Robertson (3,000-meter steeplechase) all qualified in their respective events.
The four qualifiers continue a strong upward trajectory for the Orange, with this year tying the 2021 season for the most NCAA Outdoor qualifiers since 2018. 'Cuse also posted the best cross country finishes at nationals in five years and garnered the most points at indoors since 2018 on the men's side and in over a decade for the women this season.
