Maxson and Murphy Earn All-America Honors

Syracuse Rowing All-Americans
Graduate student Annika Maxson and senior Hannah Murphy are 2023 Pocock Racing Shells All-America Athletes, as announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). Maxson, who was the stroke of the Orange varsity eight, earned second team honors, while Murphy, the coxswain of the V8, was an honorable mention selection. The pair led Syracuse's 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion varsity eight that finished eighth at the 2023 NCAA Championship. It was the first varsity eight ACC title in program history and earned the boat ACC Crew of the Year honors. The pair competed for the Orange at the 2023 Henley Royal Regatta with Maxson rowing in the straight four and Murphy coxswaining the eight. Maxson and Murphy were two of 33 Syracuse rowers on the 2023 ACC All-Academic Team.

A 2023 All-ACC First Team selection, Maxson was the stroke for the varsity eight in every race in 2023. Prior to joining the Orange in the fall of 2022, Maxson rowed for three years at Princeton where she was in the Tigers varsity eight that won a 2022 NCAA bronze medal and Ivy League gold medal and earned All-Ivy League First Team honors. A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., Maxson earned a Master's degree in international relations at Syracuse.

A native of Buffalo, Murphy earned 2023 All-ACC Second Team honors and won the 2023 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, and 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. A bioengineering major, Murphy is a two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete.
