ORANGE CLOSE OUT NON-CONFERENCE SLATE AGAINST ARMY
• Syracuse hosts Army in its final non-conference game of 2023.Â
• The game will air on ACC Network, with Chris Cotter (PxP), Mark Herzlich (analyst) and Sherree Burruss (reporter) on the call.
• Syracuse will try to start the campaign with four-straight victories for the second-consecutive year and third time since 2018.Â
• The Orange seek their first unbeaten non-conference slate since 1993 (3-0-1). A victory would give Syracuse its best non-conference record since it joined The BIG EAST in 1991.
• Saturday is Military Appreciation Day in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Prior to his coaching tenure, Schwartzwalder was a decorated war hero, earning the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and other accreditations for his service that included parachuting onto Normandy Beach during the D-Day invasion.Â
 • Other military festivities include the Stars and Stripes tailgate on the Women's Building field, an elistment ceremony for ROTC cadets prior to the national anthem, hometown hero celebration, in-game military welcome, band performance featuring military branch songs, Schwartzwalder's Ring of Honor induction and postgame, Army's band will play their alma mater in addition to Syracuse playing its alma mater, with both teams participating in one of college football's great traditions. Â

• Syracuse and Army will meet for the 22nd time overall and first time since 1996.
• The Orange have won all five games played on their home field against the Black Knights and hold an 11-10 advantage in the series.
• The squads met at neutral sites for three contests. The 1960 and 1964 games were played at Yankee Stadium, while the 1962 matchup was played at the Polo Grounds.
SCHWARTZWALDER TO JOIN RING OF HONOR
• Floyd "Ben" Schwartzwalder will be honored in Syracuse's Ring of Honor in the JMA Wireless Dome on September 23 when the Orange host Army. It is an honor bestowed upon individuals named one of Syracuse's most outstanding student-athletes or coaches to compete and/or coach their associated collegiate sport.
• Schwartzwalder led the 'Cuse program for 25 years. Under his watch, the Orange reached the pinnacle of college football, claiming the 1959 National Championship, and produced some of the greatest players in the history of the sport - most notably Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little.
•  was a paratrooper who parachuted onto Normandy Beach on D-Day. He was among the first wave of soldiers that jumped in 1944. Dropped far behind enemy lines and miles off target, Schwartzwalder, a Captain in Company G of the 507th, organized his men, established command, and a week later delivered a large group of prisoners to the Allied lines. He rose to the rank of major and was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, four battle stars and a Presidential Unit citation for his distinguished service. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.

• QB Garrett Shrader rushed for a career-high 195 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Syracuse to the victory at Purdue.Â
• His 195 yards are the third-highest single-game total in the FBS this season and highest total for a quarterback. Â
• The 195 yards tie for eighth on the ACC single-game record list for rushing yards by a quarterback, matching Malik Cunningham's mark against Virginia in 2020. Shrader now owns two of the top-20 league quarterback single-game rushing performances of all-time.
