How it Happened
- Opening the season at Coyne, Cornell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute as Caroline Ramsey blasted a corner, partnering with sister Julia Ramsey and Sarah Rogalski. It marked the first time all year the Orange trailed.
 - Seven minutes later, the Big Red doubled the deficit as Caroline Ramsey stuck an identical corner with her sister on the insert and Claire Wolfe on the stop. It was the first time Syracuse trailed by a 2-0 count in the last six games.
 - With 90 seconds to go in the first quarter, van den Nieuwenhof deposited her first of the night on a direct corner insert from Lieke Leeggangers, cutting the Big Red lead to 2-1.
 - As the clock wound down on the first half, the Orange got a breakout pass in transition as Charlotte de Vries connected with Lana Hamilton out of the substitution area. Hamilton zipped a pass forward to Hattie Madden, who promptly blasted a backhander to the top left corner, locking in a 2-2 game through 30 minutes.
 - Neither side scored in the third quarter as the 2-2 tie spilled over into the final frame.
 - Midway through the fourth quarter, Pieke van de Pas sailed a pass forward to Hattie Madden, who dribbled once before she was tackled from behind on a scoring chance. Syracuse was awarded a penalty stroke. Van den Nieuwenhof stepped up and buried her second stroke of the year for a 3-2 'Cuse lead 64 seconds into the fourth period.
 - It would be a penalty corner that added an insurance goal for the Orange as van den Nieuwenhof notched her second hat trick of the year on a Boogert insert corner with Myrthe van Bolhuis on the stop.

- After the first quarter, Syracuse controlled the play, out-shooting Cornell 17-0 over the final 45 minutes. The Big Red did not take a shot, nor did they earn a corner in the final three frames of the night.
 - The Orange picked up 13 corners in the game, scoring on two of them. Broderick made six of her 10 saves on Syracuse penalty corners.
 - Three of the four Orange goals were assisted on Wednesday. The lone unassisted goal was van den Nieuwenhof's penalty stroke.
 - Syracuse won its fifth-straight game against the Big Red, improving to 34-3-1 all-time against its Central New York rival.

- It's a quick turnaround for the Orange as Syracuse hits the road for a Friday night showdown at Lafayette.
 - Game time at Rappolt Field is set for 6 p.m. and will be carried on ESPN+. Admission to field hockey is free of charge at Lafayette.
